Section R905.1.2 Ice Barriers: Amend this section by adding the following exception:

Exception: 2. The building is constructed with the following components:

a. A raised heel truss or similar design, and

b. A minimum of R-38 attic insulation extends across the top plate to a point aligning with the exterior sheathing, and

c. The plans for the alternative design described in this section are submitted and approved at the time the building permit is issued.

Clive, IA has adopted the 2015 IRC including appendix M. 

Section R313.1 Townhouse Automatic Fire Sprinkler Systems: Delete section R313.1 and insert in lieu thereof the following new section:

R313.1 Townhouse Automatic Fire Sprinkler System. An automatic residential fire sprinkler system shall be installed in townhouses.
Exceptions:1. Townhouse structures that contain eight (8) or less dwelling units. 2. Townhouse structures less than eighteen thousand (18,000) square feet of floor space. The calculation of square footage is inclusive of any attached garages and exclusive of any unenclosed spaces.

Section R313.2 One- and Two-Family Dwellings Automatic Fire Systems: Delete sections R313.2 and insert in lieu thereof the following new section:

R313.2 One and Two Family Dwellings Automatic Fire Sprinkler Systems. An automatic residential fire sprinkler system shall be installed in one- and two-family dwellings.

Exceptions: 1. One- and two-family dwellings containing less than eight thousand (8,000) square feet of floor space. The calculation of square footage is inclusive of attached garages and exclusive of any unenclosed areas.
